Information about the play:
A famous musician attempts a comeback after a Cancel Culture scandal, only to realize that his once protege, a young ex-lover, has surpassed him in terms of music career and fame. Now a rising star in the pop music scene with 90 million TikTok followers, she publicly accuses him of exploitation and manipulation, leading to a social media shitstorm of threats and accusations.
A journalist tries to help a young porn actress and expose the exploitative film production company in her article, but unexpectedly finds herself in trouble, while a tough editor-in-chief is left trying to save her own skin in the end.
In a time where kindness is quickly seen as crossing boundaries, humor is cautioned against, and irony should not be used without a disclaimer or at least a relativizing emoji, Yael Ronen and Shlomi Shaban cancel one character after another in a playful and musically spectacular play where all characters are intertwined. They address various themes rampant in our current culture of debate with refreshing lack of restraint: racism, sexism, abuse of power, #MeToo, feminism, social media frenzy, cultural appropriation, cancel culture, and political (in)correctness.
The play poses questions about who uses whom in "Slippery Slope," for what motives, and who rightly or wrongly experiences what, just as eagerly discussing the future direction of Wokeness.
