The life story of Dr. Johann Faust, a symbol of humanity's tireless search for knowledge and power, remains relevant through the centuries. The character reflects the drive of modern society, its obsession with self-optimization and the profound questions about the meaning and purpose of our existence. In this production, Faust's story unfolds anew – a scholar who, dissatisfied with the limited knowledge of his time, makes a bet with the devil. His insatiable desire leads him on a path through human abysses, a journey that holds tragedies and profound insights both in the "small world" and the "big world."
This production takes the audience on a journey through Goethe's universe, from Greek mythology to the Anthropocene, raising the question of humanity's responsibility for the future of our planet. Dominique Horwitz and director Torsten Fischer offer a profound exploration of Faust's eternal struggle, an exploration of power, possession, and the search for the true meaning of life.
