Quadro Nuevo - HAPPY Deluxe
The music of Quadro Nuevo radiates the joy of an adventurous life. Each melody tells of it. Every note transmits the deep love for the instrument. Each journey shapes the extravagant artistry of the ensemble.
In Buenos Aires, they indulged in tango nights. On the Greek islands, the virtuosos found the magnetic song Erotiko. They then sailed through the Aegean in the footsteps of ancient myths, climbed lava-spewing volcanoes in Iceland, and finally reveled in Brazil with samba, bossa, and chorinho.
Music that brings happiness!
Childhood friends Mulo Francel and Didi Lowka founded the ensemble Quadro Nuevo in 1996. Countless places from Helsinki to Hong Kong, from the Caucasus to Carnegie Hall in New York have since been traveled by the adventurous artists. Through their daring style of music-making, they received the ECHO twice, a Golden Record, the Prize of the German Record Critics, and several Jazz Awards.
With the extravagant and playful accordionist Andreas Hinterseher and the pianist Chris Gall, who shines with abundant creativity, they live their music in the here and now. This reminds one of four fellows joyfully making music while traveling through southern town squares and fairs. This was the case in the beginnings of Quadro Nuevo.
Later, they spent time in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, rehearsing for days in the sweltering midday heat, venturing out in the evenings, diving headfirst into the scene, accompanying dancers, and indulging in heavy wine, Caipirinha, and fresh Brazilian music right from the source.
The new album HAPPY Deluxe emerged from this.
From here, the virtuosos embark on improvisational new territory, sometimes soaring in buzzing heights, sometimes diving into glittering Mediterranean seas, sometimes chillily spun in daydreams and night flights.
Quadro Nuevo explains this acoustic homage to moments of happiness:
"Our music has always emerged from experiences and encounters. The cheerfulness and friendliness of many people in Brazil fascinated us. It colored our songs. Thus, the title of the album was born. We are well aware that the everyday world of many people is anything but carefree. Nevertheless – or precisely because of that – the music should offer a positive counter-world even in times of crises and wars."
