We are pleased to announce a very special event: A Midsummer Night's Dream in the idyllic setting of our castle garden! This timeless masterpiece was performed here 20 years ago and won the hearts of many Oldenburg residents. We are now continuing this tradition while also presenting a brand new production.
Experience a magical night with us as you settle down for a picnic amidst the enchanting backdrop of the castle garden.
But what is it really about? About love, of course! A loves B, who loves not A, but C, and C of course loves A - and so on, following the motto: you don’t love me, but I love you. It was no different in Shakespeare’s time than it is today. Chaos, therefore! To clarify this - off to the castle garden!
Luckily, the duke loves the right one. Which duke? Why, the one from Oldenburg, of course, Peter Ludwig. The same one who wrested the castle garden from nature, thus the Hunte floodplain, which Oberon and Titania... no, more about that later.
The duke wants to marry. Calls all of Athens? No, calls all of Oldenburg to the festivities! A celebration! In the castle garden! A picnic in the green! Awaken the spirit of cheerfulness everywhere!
So Oberon and Titania, the rulers of the fairies and elves, are quarreling. This disturbs nature, and therefore love must come. Not between the two of them, no, humanity must reconcile with nature. At least in the dream. In Bottom's dream, so to speak. Who is this Bottom again?
Bottom belongs to an amateur theater group that wants to perform "The Comedy of Pyramus and Thisbe" at the wedding. Where? In the castle garden, of course! So: Pack your picnic, bring friends and family, and let yourself be enchanted by the art of theater.
