MUSIK IM RÖMERmuseum: Ars ad Mundum: Phantasy
Oboe and strings, this is a rare and unusually colorful instrumentation, a quartet in which the oboe takes the lead.
Not only does the oboe shine in the brilliant high F of Mozart's F major quartet. In the Allegro it sings, in the Adagio it becomes poignant and has to – probably a Fasching joke from the rascal of Salzburg – compete in the final Rondo in 4/4 time against the 6/8 of the strings. When Britten made a big impact with his Phantasy Quartet, he was only 19. A single movement, written in the tradition of the baroque English string fantasy: contrasting, lyrical, lively, tumultuous, at the center an urgent pastoral. In new colorfulness, Schumann's intimate romances with oboe, as in the original, but experienced with string trio instead of piano. With his miniatures, Zinzadse's and Giorgi Kalandarishvili's homeland, Georgia, comes to the stage. Original and captivating, Zinzadse merges the characteristics of Georgian folk songs and dances with the legacy of classicism in his short pieces. Music made from music can also be found in Anatol Riemer: Splinters, motifs, and themes from Richard Strauss’ powerful "Alpensinfonie" have been transformed into a fascinating duo for oboe or English horn and violin.

It was built at the original site of the Roman camp Aliso, where the legionaries camped 2,000 years ago. Opened in 1993, the central museum for Roman military history in Northwest Germany brings to life the 28-year history of the Romans in Westphalia with reconstructions to try out, films, 3-D and virtual reality animations, audio plays, and models.
The concert series is organized in cooperation with the KulturStiftung Masthoff and the Westphalian Roman Museum.
