Rong Kong Koma - Punk-Rock-Pop
Playful and danceable, punky and hard at the same time. The fluffy instrumentation creates an overall positive mood, while the scratchy vocals of singer and multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Kiefer ground RONG KONG KOMA and move the band far away from the mainstream. Thus, a first album was created that effortlessly plays with the polarities of life. A band whose concerts create space for both wildness and tenderness. Songs that impress at first listen with simplicity, but develop unexpected complexity and dynamics upon closer listening. Each song sounds as if it were ripped straight from life, as if they were scars and each note a personally experienced and only partially overcome pain.
Sebastian Kiefer, a musical jack-of-all-trades on at least a dozen instruments, composer, lyricist, singer, recording studio owner, and children’s book author, founded Rong Kong Koma in October 2017. He finds comrades in old friends from the Kreuzberg and Neukölln punk scene. Unlike his previous bands "Diving for Sunken Treasure" or "Huck Blues," the lyrics are for the first time in German. With Nils Bucher as bassist, he finds both a kindred spirit and a partner in the new direction. He is a documentary filmmaker from Stockholm, a songwriter, and a multi-instrumentalist himself. Also on board is Mike Heide, a full-time drummer experienced in band and touring. He brings new sounds and a hard, raw drumming to the songs. Making music together is the core vision of this newly formed band. Intense rehearsal phases, several lineup changes, norming, storming, and finally: performing. The new band has already played in clubs across Germany before the final name was even found.
The first album "Lebe Dein Traum" was released in March 2020, produced by Sebastian Kiefer. Despite the impending corona crisis, canceled gigs, and nationwide creative stagnation, it was unanimously well-received by the press and fans. Linus Volkmann describes it as "a dark, yet highly aesthetic record," and OX states: "Wonderful sound that works everywhere." The video for the song "Scheiß Berliner" was aired on 3Sat Kulturzeit, which sparked a debate about the extent to which local patriotism occurs in a left-wing scene and if so, why it actually happens.
The second album "Delfine der Weide" was released in October 2022 on Rookie Records, also produced by Sebastian Kiefer. After two years of concert drought, loneliness, distancing rules, and war, a multi-layered and profound album has emerged. Full of suffering and madness. Love and hate. Loneliness and longing. Creation and procrastination, and depression and happiness.
A bit more of everything: harder, poppier, punkier, faster, slower, more melodic, and more direct. The next evolutionary stage of the band.
