Junges Podium Weltmusik #2 - Volkslied neu erleben – Volkslied grenzenlos!
„Music is the only language in the world for which no translator is needed.“ This statement by cellist László Fenyö captures the essence of our new series Junges Podium Weltmusik, which comes to the stage in collaboration with numerous partners from the city of Pforzheim. Young arrangers and composers from various cultural backgrounds are tasked with conceptualizing a one-hour concert program for string orchestra and a traditional instrument. This results in works for string orchestra and oud, works for string orchestra and six-part vocal ensemble, as well as works for string orchestra and cimbalom.
Don't know what to expect? – Neither do we, because this music is actually heard here in Pforzheim for the first time.
Tradition meets modernity: As part of the anniversary season, the renowned orchestra dedicates itself to one of the smallest forms of music: the folk song. In collaboration with the Vocoder Ensemble from Hamburg, an award-winning a cappella group that has been engaging with German song tradition since its founding in 2016, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim presents folk songs in unprecedented arrangements. These were created by Henning Wölk, an award-winning member of the Vocoder Ensemble. The concert program encompasses a wide range of folk songs from different regions and eras. From well-known classics to rarely heard gems, the richness of German folk song heritage is drawn upon. The orchestra showcases its great virtuosity and tonal diversity in this program. From Baroque sound colors to the simplicity of classical music to romantic symphonic elements, the orchestra reveals unexpected facets of the German folk song. The ensemble does not shy away from modernity either: In this innovative concert format, jazz, pop, and cinematic influences can also be heard.
