»Cry Baby« had its premiere in April 2024 at the Otto Schäfer Museum. The Mainpost wrote about the evening: “Infinitely beautiful”. Now our musical original production is moving to the big stage at the community hall theater!
Janis Joplin is an icon that is deeply intertwined with the spirit of an entire generation. Her unmistakably rough voice and her excessive singing style made her a music legend of the 1960s. She turned away early from the prevailing norms and drew inspiration from the music of Black women like Bessie Smith or Odetta. Far from her provincial hometown in Texas, she found refuge in the hippie stronghold of San Francisco, took drugs, drank vast amounts of alcohol, sought love with men and women, and found her greatest fulfillment on stage during concerts. She was 27 when she died of a heroin overdose, joining the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and others in the Club 27. The song evening by the artistic director of the Theater Schweinfurt celebrates Janis Joplin's music and embarks on a quest for traces. At the forefront stands the internally torn, highly intelligent young woman who rebels against social conventions, searches for orientation, obscures her insecurities through provocations, and yearns for recognition.
