André Rabini - Sextett
André Rabini Sextett
In the early 60s, Frank Sinatra performed with the sextet of vibraphonist Red Norvo. The result of this collaboration was an intimate and very tasteful musical experience, which peaked with the recording of a concert in Paris (Frank Sinatra in Paris). Naturally, his greatest hits were part of the program, but also wonderful ballads that shone in this instrumentation in a new, very special light. This concept fascinated the singer André Rabini so much that he fulfilled a dream by forming the "André Rabini Sextett." Like Frank Sinatra, Rabini presents with his sextet a sound experience characterized by the unique sound of the vibraphone in combination with guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, and multi-part singing. Moreover, singer and host Rabini, who has achieved national and international success, draws on both classic evergreens as well as selected titles that you don't hear every day. There will be cool swing songs from the Sinatra/Norvo and Sinatra/Antonio Carlos Jobim collaborations, yearning ballads, up to "outliers" from the legendary Louis Prima, all of which André Rabini captures with his vocal range. A charming and humorous presentation is just as much a part of it as little anecdotes from that time. The target audience for this program is everyone who is freshly in love, eternally in love, or simply in love with music.
The Musicians
André Rabini brings the charm of Frank Sinatra, the humor of Louis Prima, and the coolness of Dean Martin to the stage in his very personal way. He is one of the few vocalists who also master an instrument. Thus, Rabini is not only a singer but a full-blooded musician! And you can hear that as soon as he opens his mouth. For Rabini, "swing" means not only singing but also entertainment! As Dean Martin beautifully said, "If the audience is excited, I am too!"
Matthias Schinkopf, musical director, arranger, composer, and saxophonist of the band, was born into music. As a highly decorated saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, he is a sought-after studio musician in addition to his work in countless live bands. From a young age, he received a profound musical education, which he later perfected through studies in both classical and jazz-rock-pop fields. After his studies, he took on the position of his lecturer for classical saxophone at the University of the Arts in Bremen, a role he held for many years. Matthias is now a freelance musician and regularly shares the stage with nationally and internationally known musicians such as the Bremen Philharmonic, James Last, Oleta Adams, Klaus Lage, Dieter Bohlen, and Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet). In 2017, he received the German Rock and Pop Music Award from the German Rock and Pop Musicians Association for "Best Wind Instrumentalist" (first prize) and also received the first prize in the royal category "Best Instrumentalist Soloist."
David Jehn comes from a large musical family and masters many instruments. In addition to double bass and electric bass, he plays banjo, recorder, and numerous other instruments. David is musically very versatile: he is a jazzer, rocker, and blues musician in countless bands, works as a theater musician, producer, arranger, composer, and university lecturer, and is considered one of the best children's songwriters in Germany.
Jan-Olaf Rodt is known for his concert activities in Germany and abroad both under his own name as well as a sideman for other artists such as Ignaz Dinné, Malte Schiller, Vincent Veneman, Jonathan Robinson, Sigi Busch, Bremen Philharmonic, Ensemble Reflektor, Peter Dahm, Erdal Akkaya, and many others. In addition, he participates as a musician in various theater and musical productions, but also partially as a musical director, including at the Theater am Goetheplatz Bremen, Musical Theater Bremen, Stadttheater Bremerhaven, Staatstheater Oldenburg, Landesbühne Nord Niedersachsen. His work as a studio guitarist in various genres is documented on numerous record releases, including on his own album "Shimmering" (Unit Records 2018).
Drummer and percussionist Maximilian Suhr from Bremen developed his passion for music in early childhood. From a young age, Suhr gained his first stage and studio experiences in school bands and his own projects. He is a multiple winner of the soloist award from the HfK as part of Jugend jazzt and studied jazz drums there with Wolfgang Ekholt. As a very versatile musician, he is active in the regional and national music scene, collaborating with artists from various genres. Currently, in addition to the André Rabini Sextett, this includes Michael Dühnfort, Emanuel Jahreis, Till Simon, Julian Costello (UK), and Tim Schikoré. As a studio musician, he works on numerous recordings and tours continuously both nationally and internationally. Since 2010, he has held a teaching position at the University of Bremen for conducting a big band. As a composer, Suhr is working on his first album under his own name and tours with the Maximilian Suhr Trio throughout Germany.
Philip Andronic significantly lowers the average age of the band. The young musician discovered his passion for jazz early, influenced by his father. In addition to playing the piano, his fascination with the vibraphone grew with the formation of a percussion ensemble. As a prizewinner of various jazz competitions, he received lessons from Wolfgang Schlüter, participated in renowned workshops at the Federal Academy in Trossingen, and played at jazz festivals in Germany and Norway. He has also toured in Romania, China, and Taiwan. Philip studies jazz vibraphone under Professor Florian Poser at the University of the Arts in Bremen.
