»Macbeth« is Shakespeare's shortest play, but it is packed with action and drama. The events unfold so rapidly that Macbeth feels swept along and unable to control them. He rushes through his drama as he did through the ranks of his enemies as a warrior. He is trapped in an endless cycle of pain, destruction, and death, driven by his own misguided decisions. Once started, he cannot leave this destructive path and deceives himself into thinking he can turn the situation around and that the ends will justify the means. He desperately seeks love, honor, friendship, power… Ultimately, he despairs of himself. The strongly atmospheric production uses cinematic techniques such as a hypnotic soundtrack, simple historically inspired costumes, and powerful lighting effects. The brisk narrative style and echoes of well-known history and fantasy productions appeal to the viewing habits, especially of younger audiences.
English MACBETH is one of Shakespeare’s shortest plays, but it is loaded with action and dramatic turns. The events tumble forward so quickly Macbeth feels powerless to stop them. For Macbeth, the events of the play bring the adventure and terror of his familiar battlefield to the supposed peaceful and trusted boundary of his home. He is caught in an endless circle of pain, destruction and death brought on by his own misguided choices. Once Macbeth agrees to the fate of the play, he is powerless to leave the destructive and deadly path of his actions. He fools himself into believing he will not reap the consequences of his own choices. Shakespeare’s Macbeth is desperate for love, recognition, honor and friendship. Desperate for power… Desperate. Just desperate. The performance uses a cinematic way of storytelling: a straight line of action, a hypnotic soundtrack, sober but expressive costume, and the use of light and fog to create an atmosphere that is similar to popular history and fantasy productions. BSC’s Macbeth may very well appeal to a younger audience due to its cinematic flavor.
