Panda-Pand
Once upon a time in China, there was a panda bear named Not-Peter, because what panda is named Peter anyway? Not-Peter's hobbies were sleeping and eating bamboo. While joyfully nibbling on a bamboo stalk, he had the best idea of all time. He blew strongly into his favorite food and heard a sound. With six holes in the bamboo stalk, loud, soft, off-key, and not so off-key tones rang out, even a whole melody. Together with his fellow pandas Not-Olivia and Not-Gerhard, he founded a Panda-Pand.
With hits like "Marble, Stone, and Bamboo Break" or "The Bears Race Through the Forest," and finally "Born to Be Wild," they make the whole forest shake. The question is: Can so many pandas with bamboo flutes really work out?
Saša Stanišić was born in 1978 in Višegrad (Yugoslavia) and has been living in Germany since 1992. His stories and novels have been translated into over 30 languages and have been widely acclaimed, including winning the German Book Prize in 2019. But what does that really mean? Cranberries taste better than prizes. Besides, those were adult books. What matters is for children (and pandas). Stanišić sleeps and works in Hamburg. He can (poorly) play the guitar.
