Experience the gripping story of the Titanic in a unique production by the Free State Theater of Bavaria.
The award-winning musical TITANIC tells the dramatic and emotional journey of the famous "unsinkable" luxury liner, whose tragic fate on its maiden voyage in 1912 shook the world. It does not recount the familiar plot of the eponymous film but instead devotes itself with moving music and spoken dialogue to the individual fates of the passengers - based on historical figures and eyewitness accounts.
The story begins in the port of Southampton. Crew and passengers board the Titanic and look on in awe at the largest ship in the world.
Central figures include Ismay, the director of the White Star Line, who pushes for the ship’s high speed, Captain Smith, who bears the responsibility, and designer Thomas Andrews, who sees the disaster coming. Additionally, we follow other passengers from all classes who tell personal stories of hope, love, and ascension.
After the collision with the iceberg, the impending doom quickly becomes a reality. While passengers and crew try to cope with the deadly reality, the musical highlights the unequal chances of survival of the different classes. Moments of tragedy, separation, sacrifice, but also love and hope emerge. In the end, the Titanic becomes a monument to human hubris and at the same time a symbol of courage and humanity.
The elaborate stage and costume design allow the majestic Titanic to come alive in the minds of the audience, while the plot tells the deep human stories behind the catastrophe. From the dazzling beginning to the poignant final scene, the audience is drawn into the fateful night when the Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg.
The production features large choral ensembles, emotional solos, impressive choreography, and an atmosphere that spectacularly portrays the monumental sinking of the ship. But more than the disaster itself, the musical centers around the unshakable belief in love, hope, and the pursuit of a better life that connects all classes and social strata.
