Their names are Nour, Tülay, Mercedes, Dede, and Cemile, and they came to work in Germany. They come from Turkey, Spain, Greece, Yugoslavia, Morocco, and Italy. They miss their families, feel homesick, and the working conditions in Germany are not easy, but their families back home rely on them and the money. At some point, 22-year-old Nour and her friends realize that they came as "guests" and that guests should actually be treated better, right? Nour, who loves to wear mini skirts, who never let anyone restrict her back in her hometown Istanbul, and who was raised by her father as a fighter, learns about a women's strike in the twenties. The young women then begin to fight for the rights of female workers and demand improvements in their housing conditions, better working conditions, German courses, and higher wages! Under the slogan: "One Mark more!" the young women want to finally get out of the so-called "low wage group". The friends organize themselves; the labor struggle begins…
Gün Tank's debut work "Die Optimistinnen. Roman unserer Mütter" tells – from a female perspective in the otherwise male-dominated history of the "guest workers" – the story of the so-called "wild strikes" in the "strike year 1973" between Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Berlin. A story about female solidarity, strong women, and the enormous contribution these women made nationwide in the labor struggle. After the great success of "Istanbul" at the theater stages in Stuttgart, "Die Optimistinnen" is another theater text by Murat Yeginer that fascinates, touches, enlightens, and awakens. A gripping and entertaining theater evening with a lot of music from the home countries of the protagonists.
