What began in the summer of 2021 as a spontaneous idea from two young dancers from Öhringen has developed into an extraordinary event concept: During a shared movie night featuring "The Greatest Showman," the question arose as to why films are accompanied live by orchestras – but have never been danced live. The answer did not take long to come.
After intensive discussions with dance schools and creative planning, "Kino 'ver' tanzt" celebrated its acclaimed world premiere in May 2023 at the Kultura Öhringen. The film was shown in full length on the big screen to over 1,000 enthusiastic visitors – and every dance scene was simultaneously performed live in front of the screen by several dance groups. Cinema, dance, and emotion merged into a unique experience.
After a creative break and extensive preparation, it is finally time again in 2026: "Kino 'ver' tanzt" returns – this time at the Stadthalle Leonberg.
Under the renewed artistic direction of Franziska Hader, who already took the creative lead in 2023, the Stadthalle is transformed into an atmospheric cinema hall of a special kind. Six dance schools from the region between Leonberg and Hohenlohe bring the captivating film "The Greatest Showman" to the stage with passion, diversity, and dancing precision.
Look forward to an evening full of goosebump moments, stunning visuals, moving music, and captivating choreography – a cinematic experience that you not only see but feel.
Experience cinema anew. Experience cinema that dances.
About the film's content:
The film "The Greatest Showman" is based in its essentials on the life story of P. T. Barnum, a circus pioneer who comes from humble beginnings and builds a spectacular entertainment company with great vision. He gathers people with special talents and appearances around him and makes them celebrated stars. Despite his success, Barnum falls into a crisis due to ambition, societal recognition, and personal doubts. His family and artistic community are threatened to break apart. In the end, he realizes that true greatness lies in unity, diversity, and the love for the people who have been with him from the very beginning.
