The Dianto Reed Quintet is based in Amsterdam, but its ensemble members come from Spain. For several years, it has been causing a stir – not least as a prize winner of significant competitions and with performances at venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam or Wigmore Hall London.
For the project "DNA," the ensemble collaborates with director Wieger Meulenbroek. The starting point for this staged concert format was a real DNA test: The roots of the quintet extend from Greece through Scandinavia to the Balkans. And these roots now form the common thread through a program about origins, migration, and identity. Thus, commissioned compositions meet traditional, classical, and folk music; a Galician bagpipe complements the familiar sound world of the quintet; and voices of contemporary migrants are heard loud – including those of the two composers Ramin Amin and Fuensanta Méndez. In short: This concert transcends the boundaries of the ordinary and is also a tribute to cosmopolitanism.
