MY VOICE
Anthology of songs from the ancient Sicilian folk tradition
A tribute to Alberto Favara and other ethnomusicologists who, between the late 1800s and the early 1900s, worked in Sicily searching for melodies and songs that expressed the most authentic conception of the world and life of the Sicilian people. Songs of the sea, of prison, of love, religious, of anger... A minimal anthology, in which the line of the song develops a contemporary texture, curated by Giuseppe Greco, who, while not losing the strong connection with the Mediterranean and the oldest connotations, places the music in a timeless sphere.
The singing of Laura Mollica, considered among the "Expressions" of Sicilian Identity (REI/UNESCO), ambassador of Sicily in the world and worthy heir of Rosa Balistreri, besides being an act of love for tradition, is seen as a moment of technical and expressive research, never shying away from the most difficult and rugged melismas, as a bloom of melody, but also knowing how to rarefy to become pure sound. The small chamber ensemble, voice and guitar, uses instruments from the cultured and popular tradition.
FANTASIMA
The film Fantasima was created in the summer of '22 with the support of the community of Aliminusi, the region of Sicily near Palermo.
The author Giuseppe Giovanni Battaglia lived in Aliminusi and stood out for his very special style of his works. Among other things, his works deal with mystical engagements with the nature of Sicily, he wrote in Italian and in his particular dialect. The community's goal is to distribute and preserve the texts, plays, and prose of the traditional author. His texts were reviewed by Paolo Passolini, and Battaglia, in turn, was influenced by Passolini.
The film Fantasima pays homage to the poet Giuseppe Giovanni Battaglia. It was directed by Giuseppe Greco in cooperation with the Associazione Cultura of the Officina dell Arte in Palermo. The head of the cultural institution is Laura Mollica, a renowned artist who has dedicated herself to the tradition of Sicilian culture since her youth and collaborates with international artists worldwide. Her focus is also on preserving traditional Sicilian culture.
Together with the musician and filmmaker Toto Nocero, who deals with current social issues and the situation of Sicilian youth, this small and special film with musical accompaniment was created.
