In the 21st edition of the Kunsttage in Barsinghausen, more than 80 artists will present themselves again on October 26 and 27 on one of the longest art miles in the Hannover region at the "Am Spalterhals" school center. Exquisite and traditional arts and crafts combined with trendy design make this market a hidden gem in the region.
The exhibition already begins in front of the school center with a large selection of bird feeders. Hobby carpenter Wolfgang Crackow from Dähre came up with a very special idea 34 years ago. His bird feeders have a greened roof. Special succulent carpets are cultivated in his garden for the roof greening. The special plants suitable for grits and sandy dry soils are also suitable for larger roofs, as they are true survivors. It happens that the bird feeders, due to the roof greening, weigh more than 30 kilograms. His various models range from half-timbered houses to watermills to small high-rise buildings with bathing facilities.
Right at the entrance, Imgard Dettenbach presents her work. In her ceramics workshop in Barsinghausen, she creates various decorative items for indoor and outdoor use. There she models owls, hippos, small dragons, and garden stakes. She uses strong but also natural shades so that each object becomes a unique piece.
Kitchen helpers such as cutting boards, salad utensils, bowls, or a ladle made from olive wood are crafted by Baha Elloumi from Braunschweig. The wood used is completely natural, sanded, and oiled with olive oil. Due to the high oil content and hardness, it is particularly resistant to fungi and thus particularly hygienic and antibacterial. Each piece is unique due to the different grain patterns.
Karin Scholz from Emmerthal produces small fairy houses. The cute mini houses are sold in various colors, sizes, and materials. Some houses are made of wood, others from ceramic and are covered with moss. In her detail-oriented and delicate work, she combines the houses with small tables on which even cakes and drinks stand.
Visitors can discover unique creations at many stands, some of which have received new "life" from used and discarded materials. Several exhibitors are dedicated to so-called upcycling art. Peter Koch creates individual boxes, "inch canvases," and even paper chains from old paper such as maps and leftover cardboard. Ingrid Laube from Neustadt am Rübenberge also pursues the same goal. Her exhibition materials include antique, solid silver forks and spoons. Each of the jewelry pieces is masterfully processed and simultaneously becomes a lively piece of history. The cutlery reveals its past through engravings and years that have remained during processing. The artist designs and creates jewelry pieces from her customers' own cutlery, so the value of memories and personal connection remain intact. Thus, cutlery that has sometimes been passed down through generations is transformed into unique pieces of jewelry such as pendants, rings, bangles, or bottle openers.
Some artists allow visitors to watch them work, and attendees can learn more about the creation of products and the techniques in various demonstrations, such as bobbin lace making, woodturning, paper design, and even the making of a Waldorf doll. The further offering is very diverse, ranging from artistic watercolor paintings, decorative objects, subtly scented handmade natural soaps, textile/fashion, lovingly designed natural flower arrangements, papier-mâché sculptures, to cheerful greeting cards and gift wraps.
After a cozy stroll and chatting, the artists' café invites you to relax with small dishes and drinks. More than 50 different cakes and tortes, hot bratwurst, and potato salad are available to choose from.
