Playing, laughing, being loud, romping, doing nothing – and that in an exhibition house! From September 4, 2024, BAUBAU invites exactly that. In the play space for children designed by artist Kerstin Brätsch, more is allowed than forbidden. Colorful wallpapers, structures, objects, and a range of “Loose Parts” form spaces on the ground floor of the Gropius Bau that do not impose fixed guidelines but are determined by the activities of the children. They dictate the direction and form of what happens here. Thus, this place becomes a space of possibilities that can change day by day.

BAUBAU will launch in September 2024 in a prototype version and will continue to develop and grow over the coming years both inside and outside the Gropius Bau – in close exchange with the children and their wishes, as this is their place.

The Play
All children have the urge to play. This is how they learn to understand themselves and the world. Especially open, self-determined play is of great significance for emotional and social development. The educational concept for BAUBAU is therefore based on the principles of free play: Here, there is time, space, and permission for children to follow their own needs and interests. They are accompanied by playworkers – trained staff who create a safe and supportive environment where children can play freely.

The Art
BAUBAU playfully questions what a museum or an art institution should be. The comprehensive spatial design developed by Kerstin Brätsch is full of references and inspirations: elements from her previous works, such as marbling, paintings, or stucco marble work, reappear here in altered forms and materialities. The wallpapers, curtains, fabrics, seating furniture, and climbing structures are inhabited by dinosaurs, fantastical beings, termite mounds, and abstract elements. With their strange, funny, and perhaps a bit eerie shapes, they create an open framework for free play.

Kerstin Brätsch's practice is designed to allow and incorporate influences from outside. While she has previously collaborated with artists or artisans, she now does so in a completely different way with children: She invites the children to reshape and further develop the space according to their own ideas and visions, without the influence of the artist in unpredictable ways.

An time limit, a text, a microphone - that's all it takes for a Poetry Slam.
Master performers and exciting newcomers impress a randomly chosen audience jury with cascades of words, lyrical figures, short stories, poems, comedic dialogues, and much more. Art lives, it needs support, an audience, a stage; it caricatures society or invites you to escape. Poetry Slam is a literary chameleon. Hosting the special literary event is multiple Hessen champion and bronze medalist of the German-speaking championships, Jan Cönig.

Doors open at 7 pm / Seating / Free choice of seats

The Komische Nacht is one of the most successful live comedy formats in Germany. In the most beautiful cafes, restaurants, and venues of a city, you will experience an entertaining and lively evening - with the best entertainment by various comedians, cabaret artists, and other comedians. No Komische Nacht is like the other.

The Komische Nacht offers a colorful and exciting cross-section of the current comedy scene in Germany. At each venue, up to 5 comedians perform for about 20 minutes each in one evening. The best part: At the Komische Nacht, you don't have to wander from place to place to see different comedians. You just need to get a ticket for your favorite venue and we will "serve" you several artists. At the Komische Nacht, it's the comedians who move between the venues. Off one stage, onto the next. This is a true comedy marathon for both the artists and the audience.

Whether a restaurant or student pub, a cultural center or hair salon, a movie theater or cocktail bar - the venues of the Komische Nacht are as diverse as the comedians who perform here. The fun factor, however, remains the same everywhere. Laughter is the focus of the Komische Nacht. And because laughing alone is possible but can sometimes seem strange, it's best to go to a Komische Nacht with friends, colleagues, or - depending on the level of your humor - even the in-laws. Together you can laugh, enjoy delicious food and drinks, and even have enough time in the breaks between the performances to have a relaxed chat.

Mathias Tretter // Souverän

“Those who decide the state of emergency are sovereign.” – Carl Schmitt was also a bigmouth; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been Göring’s advocaat. Germany’s worst lawyer wrote the famous sentence in 1928, and we've been chewing on it ever since. Hardly a hundred years later, there’s a state of emergency on every corner – but who is sovereign?

Some say this, others: the people, the truth always lies somewhere else. Mathias Tretter finds it again with his friend Ansgar: “Being stoned is a state of emergency, and I’ve chosen it for myself.” Democracy may be gradually losing its power, but that doesn’t mean one has to lose self-control. Unless one wet themselves from laughter – but isn’t that the most sovereign thing of all?

“You will bray,” says Tretter, who has now been awarded every cabaret prize since the Saltzburg Bull 2023. Nevertheless, his latest piece is his funniest: “You will chuckle, snort, gasp, and in the end, go home invulnerable.”
In other words: Sovereign. The name is program.

The microphone in hand, usually resting his arm on the microphone stand: Kebekus is a laid-back guy.
The quiet nonchalance might conceal how well-crafted and thought-out his material really is – but it doesn't. Nothing seems to interest him, and yet he is damn funny.

Felix Lobrecht says about Kebekus, “A ray of hope in this humorless business aka German comedy.”
From November 2021, he will be on tour in Germany with his new program.

The sugar loaf is gone, but not the Dirty Jokes! And certainly not for a long time.

In his second comedy solo program "Dirty Joking," Andre Kramer once again dives sharp and precisely below the belt into the absurdities of life, tackling pragmatic questions.

How does one actually communicate BDSM on dating apps that aren't from this scene, or should one completely steer clear of Tinder, Bumble, and co.? And what, or better yet, who is actually portrayed in the photos on dating apps? Do toys and all sorts of utensils from the nightstand have a shelf life? If so, should one strictly adhere to it, or is it perhaps still good? What impact did Corona have on the comedy industry and on the 39-year-old comedian Andre Kramer himself? And how do doctor's visits change as one gets older? What is his stance on cancel culture and why is there so much discussion about what comedians are actually allowed to do?

What many do not know: Kramer has actually learned something real and even completed it. He is a political scientist and has his own unique perspective on current events, everyday life, and contemporary history, taking his audience on a wild ride with dynamic perspective shifts, seen through the eyes of a St. Paulian.

In Dirty Joking, there are again gags like those made of red velvet, punchlines like a dance on the pole, and a frenetic pace akin to turning on a table lamp in the Kiez. Funny. Dirty. St. Pauli.

Note: The program is not suitable for children (U16).

„Gscheidles-TV“

Alois & Elsbeth Gscheidle, the Swabian cabaret duo with quick wit and a sharp tongue, have been performing on stages in the region for many years. They are also regularly active in front of the television cameras of ARD and SWR.

Now they have filled their new program “Gscheidles-TV” with the best numbers they have performed on television and bring them live to the stage. This guarantees the best entertainment and laughter until your sides hurt.

Marcus Neuweiler (Schöntal) not only plays Alois. He loves to slip into various costumes, roles, and dialects. Birgit Pfeiffer (Fellbach-Schmiden) embodies Elsbeth through and through: dominant, persuasive, and thirsty for a wheat beer!

The Gscheidles play with heart and passion. They stage their Swabian everyday scenes very close to and sometimes with the audience. Their specialty, spontaneity and improvisation, works to their advantage. Again and again, they surprise not only the audience but also themselves. That's why every evening with the Gscheidles is always a little bit different.

The permanent exhibition on the life and work of Erich Maria Remarque offers a detailed look into the life, work, and thoughts of the famous writer through numerous photographs, documents, and manuscripts. The exhibition is bilingual, presented in German and English throughout.

Divided into seven sections covering his youth in Osnabrück (1898–1921), the years in Hanover and Berlin (1922–1928), the discussion around All Quiet on the Western Front (1928–1930), his exile in Europe (1931–1939) and the USA (1939–1948), his political works in the 1950s, and the 1960s leading up to his death on September 25, 1970 in Locarno, the exhibition attempts to highlight the ruptures, contradictions, and controversies in Remarque's life while emphasizing their productivity for his work. It illustrates Remarque's numerous psychological conflicts, aiming to resolve the apparent contradiction between the "bon vivant" and the "militant pacifist," and provides insight into his acquaintances, friendships, and marriages. Numerous originals such as the death mask or Remarque's original desk complement the presentation.

Another focus of the exhibition is the worldwide, often highly controversial reception of Remarque's works, which have been translated into at least 60 languages and continue to attract a global audience of millions.

An information terminal allows visitors to delve deeper into specific questions about Remarque's life and work. Another terminal provides access to over 2,000 photographs spanning all stages of Remarque's life, his residences, contacts, and the film adaptations of his works.

The exhibition is open for free visits on Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm. Guided tours for school classes and other interest groups can also be arranged outside regular opening hours. Tours can be scheduled with Mr. Martin Siemsen (siemsen.m@osnabrueck.de) by phone at 0541/323-2109 or fax at 0541/323-4355.

A shop on-site offers materials related to Remarque's life and work for sale.

The castle with a lot to offer: "HerrschaftsZeiten! Erlebnis Cadolzburg" from June 24, 2017 at the Cadolzburg - the new highlight of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region

A powerful castle - the setting of the illustrious history of a ruling family that has achieved great success: this was and is the Cadolzburg. The rulers were the Hohenzollern family, who ruled over Franken and later Brandenburg, also gaining electoral dignity in the 15th century. Later on, they even became Prussian kings and German emperors.

The Cadolzburg derives its radiance not only from its role as the starting point of a significant career in the Holy Roman Empire - the impressive structure itself reflects this golden era of the Hohenzollerns. The new museum "HerrschaftsZeiten! Erlebnis Cadolzburg" of the Bavarian Administration of State Castles will make this time - the late Middle Ages - exciting and informative for visitors through innovative communication concepts. While walking through the castle, visitors can learn not only about the architectural history, wars and peace, daily life, and governing tasks of the princely castle residents. There is much to discover here through interactive and sensory means:

Visitors can experience the castle through their sense of smell, there are tactile stations, sounds and dialogues, vivid models, and invitations to try things out. Exciting or challenging games, medieval Hohenzollerns in their own words, and the jester Contz who guides visitors through the castle bring the Middle Ages to life. Visitors can also expect to see several original medieval artifacts such as swords, maces, or a magnificent treasure chest. Other objects were specially crafted for the museum based on extensive research in historical techniques, such as the gilded armor of the famous General Albrecht Achilles, or textiles dyed according to original recipes. The Bavarian Administration of State Castles also made significant contributions to experimental historical research, like creating a breastplate from boiled leather, in line with the ambition of creating one of Germany's most important castle museums.

The cultural communication of the Bavarian Administration of State Castles also offers a diverse program of accompanying events, making this exciting history even more intriguing - for the young nobleman as well as the castle enthusiast.

Not only the Middle Ages but also the Cadolzburg itself now comes back to life. After the extensive damage of World War II, original medieval rooms and successful architectural creations of the 21st century can now be experienced. The modern buildings completed in 2017 bridge the medieval era with our present time.

You can expect very special experiences here - it truly is THE CASTLE WITH A LOT TO OFFER.

The Romantic era was a particularly brilliant period for portrait miniatures, reaching its peak and at the same time signaling the end of this special painting technique. Countless artists created portraits with great empathy and astonishing technical perfection. More people than ever collected small portraits of their loved ones to carry with them or to gather at home as a pictorial family album. 142 masterpieces from the renowned Tansey collection illuminate the heyday of an art that had to make way for photography during the 19th century.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalog that, in addition to the annotated reproduction of all works, is distinguished by essays by various experts on aspects of miniature painting during this time. Hirmer Verlag, bilingual German/English, 432 pages, 208 color illustrations.

»Your virtuosic, fiery playing has its own inner life. Detached from the creator and interpreter, from skill and will, from past and present. Unbelievable. The pianist Johanna Summer makes me dizzy with happiness.« With these lines, Malakoff Kowalski recently attempted to illuminate the music of his colleague in ZEIT. Johanna Summer, in turn, says about the musician and composer: »Saying so much more through restraint than through many notes – Malakoff Kowalski is an absolute master of this art. A magic ‘between’ the musical events and contrasting gestures, which would never be possible through superficial virtuosity.«

For the first time, Johanna Summer and Malakoff Kowalski now share the stage with a joint duo program. The occasion for this is two new releases: on one hand, the jazz EP »Upright« (ACT 2025) by Johanna Summer, and on the other hand, the album »Songs With Words« (Sony Classical 2025) by Malakoff Kowalski as a singer together with Igor Levit, Johanna Summer, and Chilly Gonzales at the piano: a pairing of miniatures by classical composers with sung poems by the Beat poet Allen Ginsberg. During the recordings for this album, a seven-piece jazz suite by Johanna Summer emerged from a studio whim, linking her own works with standards and an elegy by Richard Wagner.

»Upright« and excerpts from »Songs With Words« as well as solo piano music from the previous albums of this unusual duo now form a concert repertoire of improvised jazz, European classical piano tradition, and American Beat poetry.

The pianist Johanna Summer studied in Dresden, among others, with the free jazz legend Günter Baby Sommer. Her last studio albums »Schumann Kaleidoskop« and »Resonanzen« (ACT) were unanimously praised by critics; she regularly appears at national and international jazz and classical music festivals.

Malakoff Kowalski is a German-American-Persian artist. In addition to his solo music, captured in six albums to date, he also works as a theater and film composer.

Doors open one hour before the start.

Wolfgang Trepper is coming!

For some, it's a threat, especially for politicians, television makers, schlager enthusiasts, and those stuck in the past.

For others, it's good news.

For those who appreciate the unique mix of our bitterly funny cabaret and heartfelt texts.

Just awarded the Hurz together with Hape Kerkeling and Gerburg Jahnke, the tour continues.

Everyone is welcome, as Trepper starts just as you know him.

He says he has become much calmer, but see for yourself...

The program in 2025 will be just like the others:

Uncompromisingly brutal and gently soft.

Cheeky as ever and softly human - just Wolfgang Trepper.

An evening that lingers - In any case!

With "wahlweise," William Wahl presents his third program. His choice songs resonate not only live in sold-out venues across Germany but have also been listened to millions of times on the Internet.

While his wordplay reliably elicits laughter, it is the unique blend of poetry and comedy that allows him to master the nuances of his craft.

His piano songs are bittersweetly dark, and despite his keen observation of human weaknesses, he always maintains a loving view of life. In his song "Rein versehentlich einvernehmlich," he ultimately shows us that we might still get the hang of love. In spite of everything. Or to put it in his words: The flip side of the coin is also made of gold.

Foyer opening: 7 PM

The main thing is to be on the same level!
Jonas Greiner was awarded “Newcomer of the Year” in 2019 by Olaf Schubert, is currently on tour across Germany, and is a regular guest on well-known shows like NightWash or in the Quatsch Comedy Club.
