Chicago 1929, Al Capone returns to his favorite club "Green Mill" in Chicago after his first prison stay. A "Speakeasy," as the Prohibition is in full force across America, opening up an immense new field of business for organized crime. In addition, Capone owns numerous brothels, countless betting offices, and gambling casinos, and has Chicago firmly under the control of his gangs. Bribing police and city officials, ruthlessly eliminating opponents, he is a cold businessman and yet a strictly Catholic, caring family man, a flamboyant personality. How did this small son of Italian immigrant parents from one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York rise to the top of organized crime and become one of the richest and most influential men in America? This revue gets to the bottom of it, partly documentary, partly fictional, with exciting and hilarious scenes, enriched with slapstick in the style of old silent films, accompanied by a live band. There are fast-paced chases, equally swift Charleston dances, brutal gangsters, charming prostitutes, and then there’s Mama – Teresina Capone, who gave birth to her Alphonse in Brooklyn in 1899. Could she perhaps be the real boss? Here the ensemble of the Theater Rote Bühne demonstrates once again at its best how jazz music, dance, acting, and comedy combine to create one of the most entertaining revues this city has to offer.
