Bells Echo is an integral part of the experimental music scene in Leipzig and is known for the creative fusion of space, sound, and visual elements. Now, BELLS ECHO IIIINTERIIIIM invites you to attend a collective contemplation:
For the concert in the Thomaskirche, Kali Malone adapts her compositions from the critically acclaimed albums All Life Long and The Sacrificial Code for the Sauer organ.
Kali Malone composes and performs with a clear vision. Her music is patient and focused, built on a foundation of evolving harmonic cycles that evoke hidden emotional resonances; the letting go of expectations regarding the duration and extent of sounds offers a space for reflection and contemplation. In her hands, experimental reinterpretations of centuries-old polyphonic composition methods and historical tuning systems become gateways to new ways of perceiving harmony, structure, and introspection.
Malone's music for pipe organ, choir, chamber ensembles, and electroacoustic formats has quickly found international critical acclaim. This has led to performances at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Philharmonie de Paris, Radio France, Rockefeller Chapel, Grace Cathedral, Southbank Center, Bozar, Schauspielhaus, Berghain, Unsound Festival, Berlin Atonal, and the Pompidou Center, as well as many other museums, contemporary art spaces, concert halls, churches, and festivals in Europe, North America, Japan, and Australia.
Among the commissions and residencies of the American artist, who now lives in Stockholm and Paris, are the Ina GRM, the Venice Biennale, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Orgelpark in Amsterdam, and Lafayette Anticipations. She has collaborated with and performed alongside various artists, including Stephen O'Malley, Lucy Railton, Caterina Barbieri, Macadam Ensemble, Leila Bordreuil, and Drew McDowall.
The former will also accompany her during the concert in Leipzig for several four-handed organ compositions. As a founding member of the groups SUNN O))), Khanate, and KTL – to name just a few – Stephen O'Malley is regarded as one of the most important representatives of drone music. For over two decades, he has worked not only as a guitarist but also as a producer, composer, and visual artist.
Doors open 45 minutes before the concert begins.
