Christian Fennesz (guitar, electronics)

Recordings of him come from the Sala Santa Cecilia in Rome, whose history can be traced back to 1585, but also from the "Empty Bottle", a now legendary jazz club in Chicago. He has collaborated with visual artists like Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) or significant film score composers like Ryuichi Sakamoto. Music from his hand has appeared on esteemed jazz labels such as ECM ("Food") or "Intakt" (most recently on "Chimaera" by Sylvie Courvoisier). The enumeration illustrates: Here is a determined boundary walker in search of the extraordinary. Actually a guitarist, Christian Fennesz has long belonged to the most renowned musicians in the field of electronic music. His paths have led him from cover versions of the "Rolling Stones" and "Beach Boys" to contemporary music at the music festivals in Donaueschingen. Wherever the Viennese artist finds himself, the space inspires him to artistic interventions. Now he is experimenting in the Rüsselsheim town church. Our new concert series, initiated in collaboration with the Martinsgemeinde, takes another step forward: from the archaic trombone ensemble ("Bonecrusher") through the early music machine of the church organ (Kit Downes) to the digitality of the 21st century.
