The sleep of reason, as Francisco de Goya already knew, produces monsters. We want to take a closer look at these beasts. Step closer...
Those who can no longer bear reason, and there are indications that their numbers are growing, surrender to their fears - defenseless, like the sleeping man in the famous etching. What one does not want to look at gains power over one. And who dares to display our nightmares, to articulate horrors and inexplicabilities? Art! Literature and music have amassed an immense treasure of monstrosities in the flourishing 19th century – to ease our anxieties. Or at least to open our eyes in the nightmare?
Accompanied by motifs of Richard Wagner, we will once again throw ourselves into fires and dive for golden cups, ride through the night and wind under collapsing bridges, mourn with Lenore, decipher Belsazar's flaming writing, in short: we will poach in the territory of ballads. Longing, mystery, secret: We have what fake news would love to have – and even more, we provide the smile to go with it.
For one thing is certain: Only open eyes can wink! Everything, as always, improvised, without a net or safety cushion, but with all our passion.
