Happy into the year 2025: With a large orchestra and dance company, the Sorbian National Ensemble from Bautzen presents a concert for the New Year – just as successfully as in 2024.
Well-known classics of the Viennese Strauss dynasty and their contemporaries are complemented by works of Sorbian composers. The New Year's concert evening thrives on the high-class singing soloists and the captivating ballet ensemble.
The lively customs and traditions of the Sorbian people serve as a source of inspiration for the Sorbian National Ensemble for its unique folkloric stage art and at the same time for a dance and music theater with contemporary means of expression.
Founded in 1952 at the suggestion of Domowina, the national umbrella organization of the Lusatian Sorbs, and supported by the Foundation for the Sorbian People, the three professional divisions of ballet, choir, and orchestra cultivate, preserve, and develop the cultural tradition of the Sorbs. The members of the ensemble also understand themselves as an ethnic link between East and West and as cultural ambassadors in a united Europe.
