Julia Meladin is a phenomenon: "Angst," the debut single of the newcomer, counts more than 1.3 million streams within a very short time, and the 20-year-old singer-songwriter already has more than 287,000 followers on TikTok. Why? Because Julia Meladin writes songs that speak not only to herself but also to many people from the heart, deeply touching them and not letting go easily.
Born in 2003 in a small village in Brandenburg, Julia comes into contact with music early on. At home, Queen and NDW play, and her father plays and writes songs, causing his daughter to soon follow in his footsteps. Julia first plays the guitar, then writes her first songs at the age of eight: "They were songs about love in broken English – but I couldn't help it, I just had to write them." With her first band, Julia plays not only covers but also her own songs, which she produces during music class, before she decides to publish a snippet of a song via social media for the first time.
One of them: "Angst" – a song about one's own worries and how they can sometimes consume you. Created at home, in Julia's room, at the piano with a view of the Brandenburg expanse, the song becomes a viral hit. The first snippet Julia publishes counts over 100,000 views overnight. "I've received so many comments from people I've touched deeply, that I've kept creating new versions of the song with the stories of my followers. It turned into an actual series.
Since 2021, Julia Meladin has been posting her own tracks on her TikTok channel. Unembellished direct songs about urgent topics such as disappointment and loneliness, exclusion and social coldness, or pressure to perform and the search for one’s own identity. Just like the completely self-produced piece "Angst," which goes viral and draws the attention of all major record labels to the singer, songwriter, and musician. After signing with Sony Music, she consolidates her status as one of the most exciting German newcomers with her official debut single "10 von 10,” followed by the pop-punk earworm "Beispiel daran" as another advance single from her now available debut EP at the end of last year. Currently, Julia Meladin has more than 5.9 million total streams of her songs and delights over 287k followers on TikTok, almost 262k monthly Spotify listeners, more than 73.5k Instagram followers, and nearly 76k YouTube subscribers.
“For you, it might just be a few words, while it destroys the self-confidence of a few others, yes,” is the message from the 20-year-old to all who believe they can grab a few likes and clicks through body shaming and laughter at the expense of others. “Many in my community also feel uncertain due to beauty trends,” explains Julia Meladin. “Not only on social media but also in real life. I like that I can use my reach to point this out and perhaps foster a more respectful way of interacting with each other.”
