Arnold Schönberg "Verklärte Nacht" op. 4 for String Orchestra
As part of the Bodenseefestival 2025 under the motto "Freedom," Bas Wiegers conducts the Münchener Kammerorchester (MKO) at the Ravensburg Concert Hall. The soloists of the evening are the lyrically gifted tenor Julian Prégardien, born in 1984, and the MKO's solo horn player Franz Draxinger, born in 1964. Together they perform Benjamin Britten's (1913 - 1976) magnificent Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings op. 31, a song cycle set to texts by English poets, composed in 1943. Britten was a pacifist. He was even recognized as a conscientious objector in Great Britain in 1942. In December 1961, the composer completed his War Requiem on the occasion of the reconstruction of Coventry Cathedral.
The Nazis had destroyed it in 1940 during World War II in an air raid. The MKO's program – as has long been established – also includes a world premiere or pre-premiere of contemporary music. One can be curious. The 1980-born Mirela Ivicevic received the composition commission for chamber orchestra 2023 from the association musica femina münchen e. V. The concert evening will be completed with works by 1974-born Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud and Arnold Schönberg's (1874–1951) Verklärte Nacht, originally a string sextet based on the poem of the same name by Richard Dehmel.
